What MBE certification means
A Minority Business Enterprise is a company that is at least 51% owned, run and controlled by people from minority groups. A certifying agency checks that ownership before it issues the certificate.
ABD Plumbing is owner-run by Gerald Farrish Jr., who started the company in 2013. He's an Alabama master plumber, and he still works the jobs himself.
We do commercial, residential, government and private plumbing work. Buyers who need a certified minority supplier can add us to a bid list without changing how they work.
Why buyers ask for it
For builders, agencies and property managers
-
Supplier diversity goals
Many general contractors, agencies and property groups track spending with minority-owned suppliers. ABD's certificate is the paperwork for that.
-
Government and commercial bids
Some contracts set aside work for certified firms or reward teams that include one. We take on both commercial and government plumbing.
-
Local money stays local
ABD is based in Decatur, and the crew lives and works in north Alabama.
